Capture HD video through HDMI with AverMedia

Although AverMedia isn’t the first company to offer HDMI capture cards, we’d expect its solutions to be far more affordable than what’s currently available in the market. The company was showing off two new models at Computex, offering a wide range of features beyond HD capturing.

The first model is called the C727 and is the more basic of the two cards. It has one HDMI in and one port that looks like an HDMI port, but instead you connect a dongle which offers component, S-video and composite video capture, along with stereo audio.

The second card is the H727, also known as the AverTV CaptureHD. This card adds DVB-T and analogue TV tuners, and an FM radio to the video capture features of the C727. It also comes with a remote control.

Both cards can capture unprotected video in H.264, although only in 1080i rather than 1080p. It’s also possible to capture video in 720p, and you can even connect your console to either card and play games on your PC screen, or record your gaming sessions.
