3, the mobile operator is biging up its music download service today by announcing that its customers bought more than one million music tracks and videos in the last month.

According to the company, this number represents 76 per cent of mobile music downloads in April, 17 per cent of digital download market and 4 per cent of total single sales in the UK in April.

Graeme Oxby 3’s Marketing Director said: “This million a month milestone is significant to us and to the wider music industry. In single sales, 3 is second only to iTunes on the internet with seventeen percent of digital downloads on 3 alone – a few years ago no-one would have believed mobile could have had such an impact on the music market. These are exciting times for us as the market looks set to grow and grow”.

3's 3.5 million customers are spending an average a whopping £34.51 per month on communications, entertainment and information services.

The news comes just two months after the operator announced that it had reached 1 million downloads in the first 4 months since it launched its music service in the UK.
