O2 Dell Streak to take on iPad

Official confirmation now in, O2 is exclusive network

Due to its size, some might call it a phone only fit for the Nav'i from Avatar, but Dell is hoping that the Streak will become a viable alternative to the iPad. It has been created to bridge the gap between something that fits in your pocket and something that is good for around the home.

The new internet tablet/smartphone, which Pocket-lint has played with on a number of occasions in both the US and the UK, will be available from 4 June, and it'll be exclusive to O2 as network provider (as we hinted before).

It'll also be available in Carphone Warehouse, as the exclusive independent supplier.

The Streak runs on the Android OS, with a full upgrade to 2.2 expected later this year. Its 5-inch widescreen display promises to make the most of video clips, and a 5-Megapixel camera has autofocus built-in along with dual LED flash.

Internal storage is 2GB, but can be upgraded by a MicroSD card up to 32GB.

Pricing and data plans are yet to be announced, but it's interesting to see that the UK edition will actually hit stores before its American cousin - something generally the other way around.
