MCV is reporting that the most famous goatee in the world, the one belonging to Virgin supremo Richard Branson, will be making an appearance at E3 next month. The man attached to the goatee will also be there obviously, as the beard doesn't like venturing out on its own, to launch Virgin's comeback into the gaming arena.
Founded in the early 1980s Virgin Games, later Virgin Interactive, played a bit part in launching Sega's 8-bit dynamo, the Master System, across Europe. By the mid 90s it was going toe-to-toe with EA, producing some of the best loved games of the era. A Pocket-lint favourite was Cool Spot, featuring the 7-Up mascot, on the Sega MegaDrive. Cannon Fodder on the Commodore Amiga earned a cult status, probably helped by its incredible theme tune.
MCV is predicting that Virgin will be focusing its latest gaming foray within the online market, where it will hope to take advantage of the booming online communities of Xbox Live, the PlayStation Network and multi-player PC gaming.
If we see an online remake of Cannon Fodder then we're on board. "War, it's never been so much fun, go up to your brother and kill him with your gun, leave him lying in his uniform, dying in the sun". Classic.
