No PSP2 rumours for months and then two come along at once. It's like what they say about buses - that Boris should never have scrapped the bendy ones. But that's another matter entirely. Sorry. Back to the PSP2 rumours. Last week we told you that there were whispers suggesting an E3 launch. Well, according to VG247 this isn't very likely. 99 per cent unlikely, in fact. Oh dear. But there have been some exciting additions to the rumours.
For VG247 has been speaking to some of its insider sources in the UK and has uncovered that the PSP2 is all systems go for a 2011 launch, possibly at GamesCom or at the Tokyo Games Show. Original plans were purportedly to get the PSP2 out this year, but these plans have been revised.
In terms of hardware VG247 is predicting a 4 core Cell CPU, possible 3G connectivity, a touchscreen backed up by the traditional PlayStation buttons and front and rear facing cameras.
There's talk of a number of games already being in production with developers and publishers already signed up and there's even a suggestion that some finished units are already here in the UK.
Big times ahead for Sony's PSP range then. But will it be enough to topple the Nintendo DS off of its perch? And do we even need handheld gaming systems anymore with the advent of smartphones and tablets? Answers below but, sorry, no prizes.
