WDTV Live now compatible with Windows 7

Update allows use of "Play to..." feature

Western Digital has announced that its WDTV Live media player is getting a firmware update that enables a host of new features, including compatibility with Windows 7.

That Windows 7 compatibility means that it can take advantage of the platform's "Play to..." feature, which allows users to right-click a media file in Windows and send it to a device connected to a home network. There's support for a wide range of file formats, and the ability to play back 1080p content.

Owners of the device will need to install a firmware update to get access to the new functionality. Full instructions can be found on Western Digital's website, but you'll need a USB stick, some time, and a little bit of fiddling around on a computer. If you've got a Windows 7 home computer, and a WDTV Live media player, then the upgrade seems like a no-brainer.
