Nintendo Wii sales fall 21%

Figures for DS sales and games also tumble

Has the Wii bubble finally burst? Sales for the most popular seventh-generation console fell 21% year-on-year for the period of April 2009 - March 2010. But it's not all doom and gloom for the Kyoto based giant, it still managed to shift over 20 million units, meaning that there have been over 70 million Wiis sold to date - almost as many as the PS3 and Xbox 360 put together.

Sales for the DS also fell from 31 million to 27 million, but when you consider that the DS has been out for over 5 years now, a drop is to be expected. Plus, if Nintendo's forecasts are to be believed, it's still on course to overtake the PS2 as the biggest selling games console of all time. Nintendo also announced that a 3D version of the handheld will be with us later this year.

Nintendo's games sales were also down on both systems, 6% for the Wii and 23% for the DS. It still sold over 340 million games though, and recorded its third best ever year, so no need to send them a donation just yet.
