Microsoft's dual-screen tablet project canned

For some time, there's been rumours coming out of Microsoft's hometown, Redmond, that the company has been working on a dual-screened tablet computer that could fold flat like a book. A statement from the company has now confirmed the project, but also made clear that it's been ended.

Frank Shaw, Microsoft's VP of corporate comms, told Gizmodo: "At any given time, across any of our business groups, there are new ideas being investigated, tested, and incubated. It's in Microsoft's DNA to continually develop and incubate new technologies to foster productivity and creativity. The "Courier" project is an example of this type of effort and its technologies will be evaluated for use in future Microsoft offerings, but we have no plans to build such a device at this time"

It seems that Courier was a potential new product that the company was trying out, but which didn't meet the standards required and so was quietly put to sleep. It's entirely possible that the dual-screen concept might be revived in another product further down the line, but don't get your hopes too high.
