At RIM's WES2010 conference, the company has officially announced BlackBerry 6 - the next version of the company's smartphone operating system.

The software, which leaked in mid-April, is a substantial revamp to the BlackBerry UI, and RIM's CEO Mike Lazaridis said that it's: "an all-new user experience guided by a few fundamental design principles. It had to be easy to use, yet incredibly powerful. It had to be fun and approachable. Anyone that looks at it should say 'I want a BlackBerry'".

RIM shared the video embedded above, where you can see a little of what's on offer. There's a total redesign of all the core applications, and it's focused on connections to social services like Facebook and Twitter. As expected, there's a webkit browser, and an oncreen keyboard with threaded messaging. There also looks to be a revamp of the music application, too.

It'll be arriving in the third quarter of the year, but we don't yet know what devices it'll land on. As soon as we hear more details on that front, we'll be sure to let you know.
