The hotly-anticipated Nokia N8 handset has been announced, and social networking and entertainment are main focuses for the tasty-looking phone.

Alongside a 12-megapixel camera, with Carl Zeiss optics, and the new Symbian^3 operating system, the N8 offers Facebook and Twitter access from a single app on the home screen. Users can update their status, share location and photos, and view live feeds without having to switch software.

It can double as a portable entertainment centre, is able to be plugged into a home cinema system, so that you can play HD quality video and Dolby Digital Plus surround sound, whilst a built-in editing suite means that you can cut your own recordings on the fly.

For those who want their entertainment on the move, Web TV services can be accessed through the N8 with channels such as CNN, E! Entertainment, Paramount and National Geographic being available. Additional UK-centric content can also be accessed via the Ovi store.

Finally, the new handset comes with free global Ovi Maps walk and drive navigation, containing places and tourist attractions for more than 70 countries worldwide.

In UK stores at the end of summer, beginning of autumn, the N8 will cost approximately £320 without a contract. Naturally, contracted offers will vary.
