Gosh - this comes a little out of left field. British guitar amp manufacturers Orange Amplifiers have decided to cram either a PC into an amplifier, or an amplifier into a PC. We can't entirely work out which way around it is, but it's called the OPC Computer Amplifier Speaker.
Either way, it's both a fully functioning PC and a guitar amp complete with a quarter-inch jack and volume, balance, treble and bass dials. Inside, there's an unspecified Intel CPU, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB HDD, and both an integrated GeForce 9300 and a dedicated ATI 5670 graphics card. There's 8 USB ports and Wi-Fi.
It comes running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with modelling software that includes samples of vintage and current Orange amps and cabs, as well as a recording software package that's Orange-branded. Essentially, you plug in an instrument and it's got everything you need to start recording.
It'll be released in June 2010, and there's no pricing yet, but we're looking forward to getting the OPC in for a full review to find out exactly what it's capable of. Stay tuned for that.
