The PlayStation 3 is now 3D-ready, even if Sony isn't. Yet.

Available from last night, the company's latest firmware update, 3.30, ensures that the console will be compatible with stereoscopic gaming. And, although there's currently no 3D content, several titles are to be released when Sony's new range of Bravia 3D TVs go on sale.

Coming at some point next month, most likely the latter part, the first 3D titles are expected to be new versions of Wipeout HD, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, PAIN and Super Stardust HD. They're all going to be available via the PlayStation Network, although they will initially only be available to Sony Bravia TV buyers.

There's still no clue as to when a firmware update for compatibility with 3D Blu-ray will emerge. But, to be honest, apart from Samsung's 40C7000, which went on sale today in John Lewis' Oxford Street store, there's not a huge supply of 3DTVs to watch the movies on.

Other improvements that come with the 3.30 update include a host of new Trophy options to make life easier for award collectors, and a rarely-reported increase in Flash support, allowing for YouTube and other video sites to run smoother through the PS3's browser.

As with most firmware updates, there have been several cases of the process causing problems, with some "bricking" reports, but nothing out of the ordinary and, seemingly, on a very small scale.
