Samsung unveils AMOLED Beam mobile

With projector concealed inside

Samsung has announced that it's going to be releasing a successor to its projector-containing Haptic Beam mobile phone, called the AMOLED Beam. It'll also be referred to as the rather less sexy-sounding SPH-W9600, and looks to offer the same functionality I8520, pictured above.

Inside, there's a 3.3-inch WVGA AMOLED display, a 5-megapixel camera, and a front-facing VGA camera, 11GB of storage with microSD expandability, Bluetooth 2.0 and the aforementioned projector, which pumps out 9 lumens of brightness to a 50-inch wide surface. That's not much, so be prepared to close any curtains in the vicinity.

The downside, however, is that the phone is only being launched in Korea for now. That means that unless you're up for paying some hefty import fees then you're just going to have to sit and be content with hooking your handset up to an external pico projector. If that situation changes in the future, we'll let you know.
