Droid Incredible gets official release

The handset formerly known as the HTC Incredible

Sometimes it's fun watching the path of handsets to market. We first spotted this handset in HTC's leaked 2010 roadmap, when it ran Windows Mobile and was called the HTC Photon. A device rather similar in looks, but running Android, then appeared in spy shots, named the HTC Incredible, a video showed up, and then some specs, followed by all the specs.

Finally, the handset has now been made official with a new name - the Droid Incredible. The specs are exactly as we thought - a 1GHz processor, Android 2.1 with HTC Sense, leap view and the friend stream, an 8-megapixel camera with a dual LED flash, a 3.7-inch WVGA AMOLED capacitive touchscreen and an optical joystick. It has b/g Wi-Fi, GPS and a headphone jack.

It'll be sold on the Verizon network in the USA, from 29 April 2010. Shortly after release, Verizon will launch NFL Mobile and Skype mobile apps for the handset, too. It'll cost $200 after a $100 rebate, if you're willing to sign up for a two-year contract at about $30-$40 per month.

No sign of any UK availability, and if we were you, we wouldn't hold your breath. HTC's lineups are usually pretty different on the opposite sides of the Atlantic.
