Bebo not the only social network site in trouble

MySpace looks to be struggling too

Bebo not the only social network site in trouble

Hitwise has published a ream of statistics on UK internet usage, and it's grim reading for Bebo and MySpace, but good news for Club Penguin and Facebook.

Both MySpace and Bebo have slipped considerably in terms of traffic from a peak in mid 2007 of around 1.5% of web use (about the same as Facebook at the time) to less than 0.2% today. Meanwhile, Facebook's been inexorably climbing the rungs, currently sitting at around 6.22% of UK web traffic.

Twitter and YouTube are sitting relatively comfortably in second and third place, and the rest of the top ten social networks are taken up by Yahoo Answers, Windows Live and Google Videos, as well as kiddie's virtual world Club Penguin, which is also slowly rising through the ranks and now sits at number 8.

The news follows the revelation that AOL is looking for a buyer for Bebo, after it performed rather less well than expected.
