It can hold around 60,000 books in the iBooks bookstore, but now one designer is hoping to use his iPad to stop books falling off his bookshelf too with the creation of a concept design called the iBookend.

"My idea this week is an accessory to transform the iPad into a practical object that may be useful around the home, in this case a bookend", says Dominic Wilcox on his blog.

As the concept shows, the iPad would slot into a docking station that has a long metal stand to go under the books using their weight to hold them in place, while the high iPad stops them tumbling off the edge.
