An even larger chunk of optical storage is set to hit the shelves as more layers of information are added to the not so humble Blu-ray disc.
The BDXL, as it is to be known, will be capable of housing 128GB of information or just a simple 100GB if you're going to insist on wanting to re-write. The format is aimed mainly at commercial industries with medical, broadcasting and other sectors where large amounts of image archiving is needed.
Of course, that doesn't stop the casual consumer getting hold of them and tossing away their out-moded 50GB BD discs but it will most likely involve buying another player with a laser powerful enough to read them.
