Sky has announced that it will start showing Sky HD from the 22 May following the first installations on that date.

Since bookings were opened to the general public on 13 April 2006, the company has said that there has over 40,000 advance sales – more than the total number of Sky+ sales in its entire first year.

2006 sales forecasts for HD Ready sets have also increased to 2.0 million from 1.4 million (source: GFK), with the cumulative total expected to be 2.7 million at the end of 2006. 46% of all TV sales over 26 inch in February 2006 were HD Ready (compared to 3.4% in February 2005).

Sky has also released HD programming highlights for w/c 22 May.

Highlights for the first week include Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, 24, Wallace & Gomit In The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, Test Cricket – and the Rugby Union Guinness Premiership Final.
