LG LX9900 LED TV to bring 3D TV to your lounge in May

Combined with 3D Blu-ray player should make perfect package

LG LX9900 LED TV to bring 3D TV to your lounge in May

10 March 2010 17:00 GMT / By Stuart Miles

LG has confirmed that its 3D TV portfolio will spring into action in May going up against the barrage of other sets from Samsung, Sony, Panasonic and Philips.

Although the company is already rolling out 3D TVs in a number of pubs in the UK, users will finally be able to get a slice of the three dimensional pie in May with the Full LED 3D Ready TV (LX9900) and 3D Blu-ray player (BX580) for the home.

Available in both 47-inch and 55-inch variants, the televisions use active shutter glasses to create the 3D experience. Other specs on board include TruMotion 400Khz, 10,000,000:1 Dynamic contrast ratio, Bluetooth, DLNA, wireless AV link and a name that is likely to only get consumers confused with the top of the range Sony offering; the LX900.

Planning to offer the complete package, LG will also offer a 3D Blu-ray player, the BX580 at the same time.

Prices are still to be finalised, but our gal on the inside tells us the televisions will cost somewhere between £2500 - £3000 for the 47-inch LX9900 and £3600 - £4000 for the 55-inch LX9900. The 3D Blu-ray player will be around £350.

  • active shutter now? I thought LG were going for polarised glasses at CES? mmm with active shutter on board its a straight choice between LG and Samsung for my 3D TV now!!! Posted by taz, Uk
  • Yeah - seems they've opted for active for the home and passive for the pub - probably a wise move as it means the pub glasses can be trashed without a heavy cost involved. Posted by stuartmiles, United Kingdom
  • The passive was always intended for commercial use, but previous plans were to release it for home users too. Now home uses get the active shutter LED LX9900 instead. Looking at the specs for the LX9900 that's a pretty awesome TV to have in the home:

  • You have to laugh, lemmings at the ready!! OOOh, oohhh! Its new, I have to have it although there will not be anything televised that will show its "NEW" features.

HD TVs are still a waste of money if you actua;;y want to watch HD, two channels on freesat, WOW! Extra to pay also for Sky's meager coverage. What was all the fuss about and why were so many mis sold HD televisions simply because "Digital TV" was coming in?

Technology has become a major con, I am one consumer that will not be rushing out and buying every device the manufacturers throw at us in the name of progress. No wonder no one has any money, its being spent on already redundent gadets and gizmos left in the stores.
