Nintendo Revolution becomes Nintendo Wii

New name for next gen console

Nintendo has ditched its working title for its next generation console and settled on a formal title.

The once called Nintendo Revolution will now be called the Nintendo Wii (pronounced we).

In a statement, Nintendo said:

"While the code-name "Revolution" expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer."

In pure marketing speak, the games company that until now has had fairly normal sound product names has said that the "Wii sounds like 'we', which emphasizes this console is for everyone".

Nintendo has also said that the choice is to do with allowing people around the globe to understand, "no matter what language they speak".

In an attempt to justify it further, Nintendo has also said "Wii has a distinctive 'ii' spelling that symbolizes both the unique controllers and the image of people gathering to play".
