Skype pulls Windows Mobile app

Skype has announced it has pulled the Skype and Skype Lite Windows Mobile apps over concerns that they don't offer a great "Skype" experience.

The move, announced on the company's blog will be a huge disappointment for Windows Mobile users who've yet to get the app, however makes zero difference to those currently using it as Skype has confirmed that it won't be disabling the service altogether.

"As part of our continual review of our mobile range, we’ve decided to make a few changes to our lineup. Skype Lite and Skype for Windows Phones are no longer available for download. This isn’t a decision we’ve taken lightly, but the reason is simple. Neither of these apps offered a great Skype experience", said Skype.

"With the latest version of the Windows Mobile OS, it’s been increasingly challenging for us to maintain an app which behaves as you’d expect on a wide range of handsets without working with a mobile operator partner", claims the company.

Users who are struggling with the app, are says Skype, "aware of its limitations".

We are awaiting comment as to whether or not the company will be developing a Skype app for the recently announced Windows Phone 7 Series handsets.
