At the Photo Marketing Association tradeshow in Las Vegas, Sigma has revealed a pair of compact digital cameras that are able to shoot in RAW format as well as the more standard JPEG. There's the DP1x and the DP2s.

The DP1x is an upgrade from the DP1, launched in March 2008. It has a 14-megapixel Foveon X3 image sensor, and Sigma's TRUEII image processing engine. Inside, there's a 16.6mm F4 lens which has been designed solely for the DP1 series and the autofocus algorithm and UI have been tweaked a little over the DP1.

The DP2s is the successor to the DP2, which was originally introduced in April 2009. It also has a 14-megapixel Foveon X3 sensor and Sigma's TRUEII image processing, but differs from the DP1x in that it has a 24.2mm F2.8 lens instead. The rear has been redesigned from the DP2, and the improvements in the autofocusing algorithm have been carried over from the DP1x as well. Lastly, a power saver mode has been added, which lowers battery consumption.

Both cameras come with Sigma's Photo Pro 4.0 software, which will process the RAW pictures that you're taking. Version 4 of the software upgrades the image processing algorithms, and adds better support for multiple CPU cores. There's also a new noise reduction algorithm which tones down Chroma and Luminance noise, and JPEG conversion and batch white balance settings have been added to the Mac version.
