Sony unveils MDR-570, MDR-370, MDR-EX77LP and MDR-EX57

Open-cup, closed-cup and in-ear headphones

Sony has announced a series of headphones - four models to be precise. There's the closed-cup MDR-570s, the open-cup MDR-370s, and two pairs of in-ear choices - the MDR-EX77LP and MDR-EX57.

They're all relatively budget-concious, so you're not going to be blown away by the audio quality on offer here. But compared to a stock pair of headphones out of the box that your MP3 player came in, you should notice the difference - at least in comfort if nothing else. Lets start with the MDR-570s.

The MDR-570s are a closed-cup headphone with slim headband and urethane-cushioned earpads. Inside, there's a 3cm neodymium driver that can handle 1000mW (or 1W, if you prefer) of input power. Extra features include a cord length adjuster and ear cups that can swivel flat so you don't crush them in your bag. The jack connector is gold-plated, and they come in black, orange, green, brown and indigo blue.

The MDR-370s have an open-cup design, which will offer a little less bass and sound isolation in exchange for slightly greater audio clarity. They're aimed at younger listeners, and also have urethane-cushioned earpads. Again, there's a cord adjuster and 3cm neodymium driver. They weigh just 52g, though, and come in pink, blue, green and white.

Onto the in-ears. Both the MDR-EX77LPs and MDR-EX57s sit inside your ear canal - blocking out external noise for a more peaceful music experience. They have 9mm neodymium drivers, and come with a carry case and again a cord length adjuster. The MDREX77LPs come in black and white, and the MDR-EX57s are cheaper and come in black, white, blue, violet and pink.

We don't have any pricing or availability details for these headphones just yet, but as soon as we hear anything (no pun intended), we'll let you know.
