Sky News app hits Android

22 February 2010 14:09 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Sky News has followed its iPhone app launch with one for the Android platform allowing Google phone fans to get all the "breaking news" as it happens.

Those keen to see what's happening without just firing up their browser can get all the latest deets about the top stories, UK news, sport, politics, business, world news and showbiz news.

Hoping to make you into a tipster, you'll also be able to send Sky News stories and pictures (Peter Andre walking down the street kinda thing) for possible inclusion.

"We are planning on releasing a number of different applications over the coming months, each of which will use the full capabilities that Android can offer", promised David Gibbs, general manager mobile, BSkyB.

The app hopes to build on the success of the company's iPhone News app, that has seen 1 million downloads so far.
