MWC 2010: Google reveals Android selling like hot cakes

60,000 Android handsets sold every day

17 February 2010 9:46 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Google's CEO Eric Schmidt has said that around 60,000 Android handsets are shipping on a daily basis around the world.

The news, made during the CEO's keynote speech at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, shows just how fast the Android platform is growing.

If that pace was to continue, it would suggest that around 22 million handsets will be sold this year from the likes of HTC, Sony Ericsson, LG and Samsung.

In comparison Apple sold around 25 million iPhone and iPod touch devices last year.
