Video sharing site YouTube has rolled out a new feature that allows you to see how good or bad your broadband connection is at watching videos. It's called the YouTube video speed dashboard.
The speed of delivery of web video depends on two main things - the speed of your broadband, and the distance to the server that the video is being sent from. The idea behind the dashboard is to let you compare your connection speeds with others on your ISP, in your area, and around the globe.
It's calculated from the speed at which YouTube video is received by your browser. That's then averaged over 30 days to give a mean speed, which is then broken down over time and compared to other people. You might find you're running faster than you thought, or you might find that others are getting a considerably better experience than you.
If you want to give it a try, you can head on over to youtube.com/myspeed, and the data should be there if you've watched some videos in the last 30 days, anyway. If no, where better to start than Pocket-lint's Megawhat TV channel?
