OpenOffice 3.2 now available

Hits 300,000,000 downloads

OpenOffice.org, the open-source office software package, has released version 3.2 of its free Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Access replacement tools. Simultaneously, the team also revealed that it's hit 300 million downloads since the suite launched in 2002.

Among the improvements in the new version of the software are faster startup speeds, improved file format compatibility - including proprietary formats, various improvements in the components of the package - particularly in the spreadsheet app, and an overhauled Chart application.

There's also a big stack of bug fixes, closed security flaws and other miscellaneous improvements. The full listing of new features can be found on the OpenOffice website.

OpenOffice.org is recommending that anyone using older versions updates immediately, especially if you're using version 2 - which won't be receiving any more software updates, security patches or bug fixes. Might be worth having a quick look at your version number now, to check.
