Acer has tossed its hat into the 3D ring, announcing the S5200 video projector - running at a 120Hz refresh rate. Plug in a PC with a compatible graphics card and grab some shutter glasses, and you'll soon be seeing images popping out of your walls, like a bad acid trip. Or an episode of Knightmare.
The projector, as well as its 120Hz functionality, also has short-throw capability. It can display 81-inch pictures from a metre away, and will also work with LAN control systems like Crestron - allowing you to remotely turn it on or off, or change sources.
For connectivity, there's an HDMI port, and the lamp will push out 3000 ANSI lumens with a 2500:1 contrast ratio for about 4000 hours before it needs replacing. It has a native XGA resolution - which is 1024 x 768. This isn't a widescreen projector - it's 4:3 - but it can cope with 16:9 and 1600 x 1200 if you don't mind things getting a little blurry.
Acer has chucked in its ColorBoost II technology, which adds a 6-section colour wheel and image processor. It'll automatically alter colour brightness and balance, depending on the content displayed on the screen. Acer promises that it won't be affected by a creeping yellow/green tint over time, either.
The projector costs £650 and is available now.
