Toshiba reveals touchscreen U500-1EX laptop

Toshiba has announced a whole range of laptops, and amongst the pile is the touchscreen-equipped U500-1EX notebook. It's got a 13.3-inch display, but this ain't no netbook - instead packing a range of more high-end specs than your average ultraportable.

Performance is centred around an Intel Core i3-330 processor, running at 2.13GHz with a 3MB cache. There's 4GB of DDR3 RAM, but just a 320GB hard drive, so you'll want some external storage if you're planning to use this as your main computer.

That 13.3-inch multitouch touchscreen runs at 1280 x 800 resolution and above it is an HD webcam with face recognition software pre-installed. There's 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, LAN, Bluetooth 2.1 and a DVD rewriter, along with integrated graphics.

It weighs 2.15kg, and for the environmentally-conscious, there's an eco utility and a dedicated button on the side of the device for reducing energy consumption. It has a 5-in-1 card reader, HDMI-out, two USB ports and an eSATA/USB port which can charge devices when the laptop's off.

It's yours for £650.
