D-link announce wireless internet camera

6 May 2004 0:59 GMT / By Stuart Miles

D-link following hot on the heals of Linksys and other networking manufacturers has launched a wireless camera. The DCS-5300W is a stand alone product that will connect into a wired network to offer remote access when your not at home.

Using MPEG-4 quality recording footage the camera can capture up to 30 frames per second and has a built in microphone to listen whilst watching live images.

Similar to standard webcams the camera has a motion detection switch
so it will only come on when it detects motion in front of the camera.

With a £380 price tag however this won't be for the faint hearted certainly considering that the Linksys wireless version is earmarked for under £100.
