Americans get price drop

20 April 2006 13:53 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Sony has reduced the price of its PlayStation2 console in America as rumoured earlier in the month.

"Effective immediately, consumers can purchase the PlayStation2 computer entertainment system for a suggested retail price of $129.99", the company said in a statement.

The company expects this latest price move to fuel consumer demand even further.

To date, more than 101 million PlayStation2 units and approximately one billion pieces of software for the PlayStation2 have shipped worldwide.

"While we continue to innovate and design groundbreaking new products, we remain dedicated to our long-term vision for the PlayStation2 platform," said Kaz Hirai, president and CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment America.

No word as yet to whether or not a price drop will be announced in the UK.
