As if there weren't tons of online options offering pretty much the same thing for free, including its own Bing maps product that offers route planning, smartphones that offer free navigation and a plethora of in-car options, Microsoft has launched the new 2010 edition of its AutoRoute software.

The first new release of AutoRoute since 2007, it offers updated maps for Eastern and Western Europe with 37 countries covered, a new user interface and more than a million points of interest, while the software actually integrates with Bing for new points of interest.

"The new and improved features in Microsoft AutoRoute help travellers be organised while offering flexibility and the convenience of choice", says a Microsoft exec in the press release.

"It will help travellers plan their vacations from beginning to end. From helping them choose stops along the way to integrating with their GPS devices, the 2010 release of Microsoft AutoRoute gives consumers the tools to plan enjoyable and memorable family vacations via car, while avoiding the rush of a busy airport and the cost of airline tickets".

Microsoft AutoRoute is available now for around £44.99 while Microsoft AutoRoute with GPS Locator is available for £84.99. There's also a free 60-day trial version available too.
