Apple iPad will cost over $1000

The announcement by Steve Jobs of the US pricing for the Apple iPad drew gasps during the media event keynote with the $499 highlighted cost lower than estimates, but when reality bites how much is the iPad really going to cost you?

We ask this question because it appears that to use the iPad to its full ability you'll need to invest in a few extras while the top-end model, that, let's face it you're going to want, comes in at $829.

The accessories we know are due to be available have not been priced at the moment, so here at Pocket-lint we thought we'd give you a run down of prices we've estimated based on the cost of previous, similar Apple products, for a realistic idea of how much you're going to have to save.

In the box Apple provides an iPad dock connector to USB cable, a 10W USB Power Adapter and documentation, but if you want to dock it, rock it, stock it or knock it you'll be splashing the cash:

iPad Shopping List

iPad - $829

iPad Camera Connection Kit - $29*

iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter - $29*

iPad Dock - $29*

iPad Case - $39*

Apple Headphones - $29

iPad Keyboard Dock - $69*

Apple Care - $69*

iWork Pages, Numbers and Keynote - $30

Total: $1152

This translates to around £700 - only just less than a white MacBook here in the UK. On top of the hardware costs you'll also be looking at 3G connectivity costs which are currently only priced for the US market at either $15 or $30 per month.
