Android 2.1 for HTC Hero pushed back to March

Upgrade coming soon, according to Irish phone network

Android 2.1 for HTC Hero pushed back to March

26 January 2010 16:19 GMT / By Duncan Geere

The 1.6, 2.0 and 2.1 updates for the HTC Hero have been repeatedly delayed as HTC attempts to make them work nicely with the handset and the company's own Sense UI. But if comments from Irish network provider Meteor.ie are accurate then device owners might not see any device updates until March.

However, the good news is that once March rolls around, the Hero will be upgraded straight from 1.5 all the way to 2.1 without any of the intermediate steps. An administrator on Meteor.ie's forums, Glynn, posted:

"We’ve been in contact with HTC and they have said that version 2.0 will be available in and around March of this year. HTC sense UI will be tightly integrated with Android 2.0, as with other versions of the software. Because of this new versions of the software take a while to develop. As for 2.1 this would also need to be developed and there is no update on this".

He then later added: "Just got another update on this and HTC have said they are releasing 2.1 on the Hero and we are hoping to have this available by the end of March".

We've reached out to HTC for comment on this, and are awaiting a response. We'll let you know when we hear back.
