The previous rumors surrounding a new Sony Ericsson built Symbian powered handset known as the Kurara clearly had one thing wrong - mainly the name.

Appearing to break somewhat ahead of Sony Ericsson's desired schedule and possibly a MWC launch, the official release by PR firm Burson-Marsteller has subsequently been pulled after briefly being published, but based on what was shown the device will officially be called the Vivaz.

However outside of that detail, much of its initially predicted specs have not changed.

According to the release, the device features a 3.2-inch screen, runs S60 5th Edition, and includes modern standards like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, SD card based memory and AGPS.

Other appealing goodies include FM radio, TV-out at VGA resolution, and an 8.1-megapixel autofocus camera, complete with picture improving tweaks such as image stabilization, face detection, geotagging, and 720 video capture.

The Vivaz will also be sold in four colour pallets creatively labelled: Moon Silver, Cosmic Black, Galaxy Blur and Venus Ruby.

While launch dates are vaguely set for Q1 of this year in select markets, both North American and global 3G variants with quad-band EDGE are slated to hit shelves.

However after the news of the Xperia X2 being delayed, resulting in Vodafone's decision to drop the handset, combined with murmuring that the Xperia X10 might be stalled as well, Sony Ericsson's reluctance to set firmer release time lines may be a smart move on their part.

Sony Ericsson is clearly hoping that this will put behind it the problems that arose with their Aino and Satio handsets.
