LG announces UK launch of GW620 Android phone

18 January 2010 10:40 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

LG has officially announced the UK launch of its Android phone, the GW620, shortly after it has confirmed plans to offer a variety of Android-based handsets in 2010.

The GW620 - which we knew was due soon - will become available under the grand title of the InTouch Max GW620 and has been picked up by both T-Mobile and Virgin Media for the UK market.

The HSDPA LG InTouch Max gets Android Cupcake, a 5-line QWERTY keyboard, as well as a 3-inch touchscreen display and a 5-megapixel camera with auto face tagging and a 1500mAh battery.

The handset offers a "Social Networking Manager" app, Linkbook, that lets you go straight to your friend's social networking profiles from your contact list. Other spec includes a microSD card slot supporting up to 16GB cards, Bluetooth, 3.5mm audio jack and push email.

"This is a symbolic launch for us. It signals the end of expensive and exclusive applications and the start of applications for everyone", says John Barton, sales and marketing director for LG Mobile, in the phone's press release:

"Many people don’t actually know that the Android market offers an impressive 20,000 plus applications which are easy to download, and of which 65% are free - and this selection is growing every day!"

The LG InTouch Max GW620 will be available on T-Mobile, with the handset free to those that sign up to a 24-month, £20 per month contract and on Virgin Media for £22 a month with an 18-month tie-in.
