Ricky Gervais stops "undignified" tweeting

Latest celebrity Twitter quitter calls service "a bit pointless"

Ricky Gervais quits

Ricky Gervais has become the latest celebrity Twitter quitter as he's announced he is to no longer use the popular micro-blogging service.

"I am sorry, but I am going to stop these tweets because I don't see the point", reads what is presumably Gervais' last tweet, before he urges fans to follow his blog at rickygervais.com.

Gervais racked up just 13,215 fans on Twitter since December, but only tweeted six times and followed no other users, suggesting he was never that committed to the platform in the first place.

"As you may know I've stopped with Twitter. I just don't get it I'm afraid", says Gervais on his blog.

"I'm sure it's fun as a networking device for teenagers but there's something a bit undignified about adults using it. Particularly celebrities who seem to be showing off by talking to each other in public".

"If I want to tell a friend, famous or otherwise what I had to eat this morning, I'll text them. And since I don't need to make new virtual friends, it seemed a bit pointless to be honest".
