Modern Warfare 2 hits $1 billion in sales

As fans of the franchise will no doubt agree, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is a true blockbuster, as news comes in that the game has hit $1 billion in sales.

Hitting at estimated $550 million in sales in its first week, the war-themed title has now seen sales of approximately 15 million copies, making it one of the best-selling games ever.

In fact, the milestone propels the game more into the realms of blockbuster movies than other games, with 3D hit Avatar only the fifth film to gross more than $1 billion, reports The Telegraph.

Others, incidentally, were Titanic, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. Other games to have done similarly well are Guitar Hero III and World of Warcraft.
