Sony Dash wants to be more than a "dumb" picture frame

Sony has launched an internet information device come picture frame come alarm clock at this year's CES in Las Vegas.

Launching in the US, with no confirmed UK launch info at the moment, the device will sport a 7-inch touchscreen display that gives you access to a number of Internet widgets and applications like Pandora or Netflix. In fact there are some 1000 free apps available, thanks to a tie-in with Chumby, to play with services like weather, traffic, sports, social networking, movies, music, games and more.

The device connects to the Internet via a Wi-Fi connection and you can even set it to wake you up by music streamed from your computer or the internet.

In an attempt to appeal to those who might look to put this in the kitchen as well as the bedroom, the Dash can be stood vertically or laid flat on a work top, presumably so you can read recipes from it while your cooking.

Priced at $199, Sony is hoping it will be snapped up by those looking for more than just a "dumb" picture frame.
