enTourage eDGe merges Android with ebook reader with tablet

A new dual screen device that merges an Android tablet with an ebook reader has been unveiled at CES in Las Vegas.

The enTourage eDGe, is as the makers call it, the world's first dual book creating within a single breath a new category for mobile devices.

Although the idea of an Android screen and ebook screen in a single device has been pioneered by Spring Design with the Alex and Barnes & Noble with the Nook, this is the first time both get equal standing in a device.

The idea behind the device, that will cost $490, is that the left side is comprised of a 9.7-inch e-paper display where users can easily read e-books in PDF and EPUB format, draw diagrams and take notes, while the right side of the product is a 10.1-inch resistive touchscreen display for web surfing, email and anything else you fancy doing on the Android platform.

"These two screens work uniquely together to make content more interactive, such as pulling up pages and images from the e-paper screen in color on the LCD, opening up video links from textbooks or dragging and dropping terms and names from the e-book into a Web browser to easily search for additional information", claims enTourage.

The device folds a full 360 degrees with ability to orient its displays horizontally or vertically, so a user can hold the enTourage eDGe as a book, single screen or prop it up like a laptop. Elsewhere you'll get a built-in noise-cancelling microphone, 1.3-megapixel camera, and the ability to make notes, with a stylus, directly onto ebooks.

Battery is currently being quoted as being around 6 hours.
