Plastic Logic Que proReader debuts

CES 2010: Big, connected and more than your average ebook reader

Plastic Logic Que proReader debuts

7 January 2010 18:23 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Cambridge based company, Plastic Logic, is hoping to shake up the ebook reader market with the launch of the QUE proReader at CES in Las Vegas.

The new device claims to be more than an "eReader" and promises to provide "a premium reading experience and access to content anywhere anytime, while simplifying the multi-faceted lifestyle of business professionals –and to literally lighten their workload", according to the company.

The unit will feature an 8.5 x 11 inch form factor, 10.7-inch touchscreen, shatterproof plastic display only dwarfed by the Skiff Reader announced earlier in the week.

In addition to being able to access newspapers, periodicals and eBooks, the QUE supports reading and annotating document formats business users need (including PDF, Microsoft Office, ePub documents and more).

The standard 4GB QUE model can hold up to 35,000 documents or the equivalent of up to 35 filing cabinets worth of documents, while the 8GB model holds up to 75,000 documents.

Like the Kindle users will be able to access content via Wi-Fi and AT&T's 3G network.

Pre-orders for the QUE proReader are being taken at the QUE Store with the promise of a mid-April 2010 shipping date. The company has said that it won't be available in Barnes and Noble stores until later this year.

However a big screen comes with a price to match. The QUE will range from $649 for the 4GB QUE model with Wi-Fi that holds up to 35,000 documents, to $799 for the 8GB QUE model with Wi-Fi and 3G that holds up to 75,000 documents.
