CES 2010: Network storage equipped with DLNA

Netgear unveils Stora NAS drive

6 January 2010 18:56 GMT / By Duncan Geere

Ready to get excited about storage? Damn right you are. Netgear has announced the "Stora" NAS drive at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It's an impressive-looking box of tricks, packing a whole host of features, including - most notably - DLNA.

The Stora contains slots for two drives - either mirrored in RAID or for extra space. It lets you stick all your music, video, photo and other multimedia content in one place and then access it from any machine in your home. Thanks to the aforementioned DLNA, it'll even stream to certain televisions and DVD players.

It'll also integrate with Facebook, iTunes, Flickr and web-enabled mobile handsets to provide remote access to your content, when you're away from your network. You can upload content remotely too. It supports a range of file formats, but on the Web it's limited to JPG, GIF, PNG, MP3, MPEG-4, MOV and FLV.

The unit should go on sale within Q1 2010, but it's not clear yet how much it'll cost. We'll bring you more when you get it.
