CES 2010: AMD-powered ultra-thin options

Toshiba announces T135D and T115D Satellite laptops

Toshiba has announced the launch of two new laptops in its ultra-thin range at CES in Las Vegas - the Satellite T135D and Satellite T115D.

Toshiba claims the new Satellite T100 series laptops aim to deliver a broader range of multimedia capabilities in the ultra-thin category - in part due to the power-efficient AMD Turion X2 Neo, Athlon X2 Neo and Athlon Neo MV-40 processors that both are capable of sporting.

With this launch the company states that it is aiming for "a balance of performance, features and affordability needed for everyday mobility".

In terms of size the devices come in at 1-inch thin and weigh under 4 pounds with full-size keyboards. Portability is further enhanced by hard drive impact sensors and Sleep-and-Charge tech means you can use it to charge other gadgets via the USB even when it's turned off. Battery life is said to be around the 5.5 hour mark.

In terms of specs the T135D tops the T115D, getting a 13.3-inch wdescreen as opposed to 11.6 inches and 320GB hard drive with 4GB RAM rather than 250GB hard drive and 2GB RAM.

Connectivity wise and both boast 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.1, HDMI port and an eSATA/USB combo port with USB Sleep-and-Charge and two USB 2.0 ports. You'll also get a built-in webcam with face recognition and 5-in-1 memory card reader.

Both laptops will run Windows 7 and if it's possible for a laptop's design to be ecologically sound - which we doubt, and secondly conscious - even less plausible, these two apparently are, with a "Gold-rated eco-conscious design".

Pricing starts at $599.99 for the Toshiba Satellite T135D and $449.99 for the Toshiba Satellite T115D and will be available in the US from 17 January, UK pricing and availability TBC.
