Amazon Kindle DX comes to UK

6 January 2010 5:42 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Amazon has announced that its larger ebook reader, the Amazon Kindle DX is available to buy outside of the US and available for Pre-order.

With a 9.7-inch screen the e-reader is listed as costing $489 and available in over 100 countries, however UK customers will find a shock when it comes to checking out. Due to import laws in the UK, when you add VAT and shipping fees the price jumps to $599.23 (£375) for delivery to the UK.

Like the Amazon Kindle, which became available last year to customers outside of the US, UK customers will have to buy the e-reader from the US store and pay an increased price for downloading books, which will be done over the AT&T global network.

Amazon says the new Kindle DX will start shipping from 19 January.
