Nokia files further lawsuit against Apple

Legal battle ratcheted up a notch

5 January 2010 10:45 GMT / By Amy-Mae Elliott

Nokia's legal battle against Apple is turning into a legal onslaught with the news that Nokia has filed a second complaint claiming Apple is infringing several "implementation patents".

This follows the original lawsuit over alleged iPhone patent infringements in which Nokia named ten patents that relate to technologies "fundamental to making devices which are compatible with one or more of the GSM, UMTS (3G WCDMA) and wireless LAN standards" and a complaint with the United States International Trade Commission that alleges "that Apple infringes Nokia patents in virtually all of its mobile phones, portable music players, and computers".

The recent "implementation patents" complaint asks the Commission to ban imports of MacBooks, iPods and the iPhone for infringing its device patents.

Apple returned fire in the original lawsuit by filing a countersuit, but has since then stayed quiet on these recent developments - we will keep you posted.
