Google has announced that it is holding a press conference on the 5 January, presumably to announce the launch of the Nexus One mobile phone.

Although the search engine fails to give away any concrete evidence as to what it will be announcing on the eve of CES in Las Vegas at the beginning of January, that hasn't stopped experts claiming it will be the launch of the new HTC build handset called the Nexus One that first leaked to the public before Christmas.

"With the launch of the first Android-powered device just over a year ago, we've seen how a powerful, open platform can spur mobile product innovation, and this is just the beginning of what's possible," reads the invite.

The event will be held at the company's HQ in Mountain View, California and comes hot on the heels of a further leak, this time from T-Mobile, that the US mobile phone operator is "reporting they are getting an Android device but won’t do any support for it other than billing, coverage, features and rate plans."

We will keep you posted.
