As snow blankets London and the South

Twitter #uksnow map makes reappearance

16 December 2009 14:50 GMT / By Duncan Geere

For the second time this year, #uksnow is rising fast up Twitter's trending topics list as flakes come pouring out of the sky across the south of the UK.

Fortunately, Ben Marsh's brilliant tracking map is still operational, and so Twitter users have been rating the snow out of 10 and providing the first half of their postcode to map exactly where the good snow is falling.

However, because Twitter users are overwhelmingly located in urban areas there are few reports coming from deepest Kent, Berkshire and out West, so it's difficult to tell what the snow is like outside of London.

If you'd like to join in, make sure your tweets have the hashtag #uksnow, the first half of your postcode and a rating of the snow out of 10. Oh, and bookmark the map - the BBC's forecasting more snow later in the week, and the Met Office has issued a "Severe Weather Warning" for 18 December.
