Late 2010 for next-gen phone OS

Windows Mobile users have some time to wait until the platform sees a major refresh, it's been revealed, as Microsoft has owned up to further delays for the next-gen version of the OS.

While Windows Mobile 6.5 launched late this year, Windows Mobile 7 will not be rearing its head until the end of 2010.

The news comes from Microsoft's UK head of mobility Phil Moore who is quoted as saying: "It has been put back until late next year but it is definitely coming".

Those that are looking forward to the release should note Moore's comments about what it will bring, including an "easier" touch-based interface.

"You're going to see a lot more on Windows Mobile 7. Giving the enterprise users and consumers what they want will be part of Windows Mobile 7. You’ll get flexibility on a much easier touch UI".
