Sky launches MGM HD

New high-def movie channel available to subscribers

A new channel "devoted exclusively to the delivery of movies in high-definition" has been announced with the news that Sky and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios have launched MGM HD.

The channel is a 50/50 joint venture between Sky and MGM and is said to "showcase handpicked selections from the MGM library", with all titles broadcasting in high definition.

MGM HD will be the first branded channel for the studio in the UK and gets a full program schedule, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It can be found on channel 345, available to Sky users that subscribe to Dual Movies and the HD pack or for a fiver a month extra.

Films highlighted as coming soon on the channel include flicks from The Pink Panther series, Woody Allen titles such as Annie Hall and Manhattan, The Apartment, Network, The Russia House, Tom Jones, Moonstruck and The Fortune Cookie, along with many other "cinematic greats".

Sky Movies currently offers ten dedicated HD channels which between them show around 600 individual HD movies per month.
