Pocket-lint gets speed boost

New server to boost performance

9 April 2006 20:35 GMT / By Stuart Miles

Pocket-lint has been given a speed boost this month to keep up with the site's continued popularity.

From today, users to Pocket-lint should now notice an improved speed performance when accessing the site's 1500 reviews and almost 3000 news stories.

Ranked as the 10,621 site in the world according to Alexa.com, the site has been under considerable strain to keep up with the increased demands from more and more visitors from the UK and around the world.

In our first month online in 2003, just a 100 people visited Pocket-lint, today the site gets that many unique visitors in 10 minutes, showing a considerable increase in traffic.

Realising that this increase was making the site considerably slower by the week, we have made the decision to increase and improve our servers to meet the demand.

We are therefore pleased to announce that Pocket-lint is now hosted in the UK rather than the US and on a machine that will allow the site to run up to 34 times faster than it did previously.

The move to the new server is just the beginning on a number of new features and surprises Pocket-lint has planned over the coming months.

We will keep you posted.
